FAQ’s

Q: Why don't I get any matches?
A: You will have more matches for your swap if you are more general with your "wish car" specifications. For example, if you don't specify a particular color or year or miles, you will get many more matches. If you still don't get any matches, leave it alone and forget it. Someone is sure to want to swap what you are looking for. Have patience. SYA will contact you when your match hits the site.

Q: How do I get specific information about the vehicle I matched with?
A:  You will need to contact the owner of your matching vehicle using the contact information provided by SYA.

Q: What if my vehicle is worth more (or less) than the vehicle I matched with?
A: It is up to you and the owner of the matched vehicle to come up with an agreement regarding any money that may change hands to make the deal work. Any values of vehicles are through the eyes of the deal participants.

Q: Do I save sales tax when I register my vehicle at my state's motor vehicle department?
A: You need to check your individual state's laws regarding this topic. It's a good possibility that you will only pay sales tax on the difference between your vehicle's value and the one you matched with, especially if the deal you struck with the owner of your matching vehicle requires you to pay them.

Q: What if I primarily want to sell my vehicle and don't particularly care if I swap it or not?
A: If this is the case, just check the box stating that you are willing to take cash in addition to or in place of a swap.

Q: What if I am looking for a particular vehicle and don't want to swap one of mine?
A: Check the box that signifies you are willing to offer cash, instead of a vehicle swap, to get the deal done. SYA will then search for a vehicle that matches your criterion and whose owner is willing to take cash.

Q: Why am I being contacted by a participant who doesn't have a vehicle I am looking for?
A: Because SYA can do a three way match and will notify each participant involved in the three way swap. The participant who contacts you may have a vehicle that a third party is interested in, and that third party has a vehicle you are interested in. If all participants are happy, three vehicles will change hands.

Q: Is there any guarantee that the vehicle I obtain is worth what my vehicle is?
A: No. every detail of the deal is between you and the matching vehicle owner. SYA only introduces you. It's like a dating site. We help you find what you are looking for. The rest is up to you.

Q: How long does it take to have a match occur?
A: Depending on how specific your request is and how popular your vehicle is, it could be instantaneous or never happen. If the time drags on too long, SYA suggests that you change your search criterion or maybe look for another vehicle.

Q: Should you list your vehicle when you first get it because you really want another one in the near future?
A: YES. This is a ideal way to use SYA. For example, if you buy a Mustang but also want a Corvette in the future, list your car and your wish car as soon as possible. It may take a long time to find your second dream car. In this manner, you can enjoy your new car while having the possibility of your next dream car "knocking on your door". You may be ready then. If you're not ready, you can always say no.

Q: Can SYA be used for every day vehicles, or only collector cars?
A: SYA can be used for all types of vehicles. For example, If you have a two seater sports car and then have an addition to your family, you may want a minivan. There will surely be someone on the web who has a minivan, but their kids are now grown and they now want a two seater sports car.

Q: Does SYA save you money?
A: YES. When you trade in a vehicle at a dealership, they are giving you a sometimes 50% retail value as a trade. This is to fund any needed work to make the vehicle presentable plus a hefty profit. They are also making that same profit on the vehicle you are purchasing. SYA takes out the middleman and gives you an even trade; value to value.

Q: How did SYA come about?
A: The developer had a three car garage for "play cars" and only so much money for that purpose. He wanted to occasionally switch cars and had to go through the hassle of selling one and then looking for what he wanted next. He thought, there must be a web site that does this for you, because he thought there must be plenty of people out there who want the same thing as he. After he looked, there was nothing, so he decided to make SwapYourAuto.com.
